When Jace McCord was almost sixteen he lived with his parents and a brother and sister. They farmed and were happy till one day four men came and took Jace and his brother away. They were taken to the Civil War, where they were split up and Jace was afraid. His older brother had always been there for him and now he was alone. The battles were horrible. The loud noise and men dying all around him. He would have lost his mind except he met an older man during a battle. The old man told him many things. One was if he was to survive he would have to learn to shoot. One day during a battle he found a holster and pistol. He would
spend all his time drawing and shooting. His friends noticed he was becoming very fast and accurate. He became known as shooter in the company he was in. His reputation grew until men wanted to face him in a shoot out. He didn't want that but they gave him no choice. After the war he went home and found his family gone. He asked around but no one knew where the went. He started riding west until one day in north eastern New Mexico he rode up over a hill and found a beautiful green valley. This is where he wanted to spend the rest of his life....but could he?
